Photo from Kids Craft Fun and Games

Today a wonderful activity to do with your kids..

This wonderful recipe lets you to use natural colors, non-toxic and to entertain your kids without using paint made with funky chemicals. Painting with finger is an activity suitable also for toddlers, it stimulates fantasy and creativity and help them to learn colors.
These paints are extremely easy to clean, are completely washable and do not stain clothing and it stimulates the different senses of the child: sight, touch and smell.
Let's start with the recipe.

You need:
  • 1/2 cup cornflour / cornstarch
  • 2 cups water + extra for thinner paint
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 3 tablespoon of sugar
  • food colouring or tempera paint powder
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
  • Optional: few drops of essential oil
  • Optional: small sealable containers - only if storing (EasiePeasie blog suggest to use left-over baby food jars for containers)
What To Do:
  1. Combine sugar, salt, cornstarch in small saucepan. Add water slowly. Mix with a whisk until all combined.
  2. Turn on the heat (gentle heat), mixing with a whisk to combine and prevent lumps.
  3. Whisk continuously until paint mixture starts to thicken and then continue mixing with a wooden spoon.
  4. Once paint mixture is thick and smooth remove from the heat.
  5. Allow to cool.
  6. Once cooled, mix in the dishwashing liquid - optional. It will give the paint a smoother consistency and a glossy finish when dry.
  7. Separate the paint into small containers and colour with small amounts of either food colouring or tempera paint. If using tempera paint powder add a little more water to combine.

**Please note:
  • If you add too much cornstarch you will get gloppy paint. Just reduce cornstarch or thin with water for a smoother texture.
  • Adding a few drops of dishwashing liquid to finger paint will give it a smoother consistency, and a glossy finish when dry.
  • For extra sensory stimulation - add texture such as sand to finger paint...OR
  • Add a few drops of essential oil - such as orange or peppermint - for beautiful smelling paint.

**Remember: Even if this is a non-toxic paint, it is NOT EDIBLE.
